Interior Design: Lighting Types

Interior Finesse seems to be the growing trend for me. As I seek to subtly change my current living space, I have found that Lighting is extremely important and should be highly considered in any design space. There is so much that can go into creating the ‘perfect’ ambiance for your home. Therefore, I will share four key things to take into consideration when designing your new space:

1. Ambient Lighting

2. Task Lighing

3. Accent/Mood Lighting

4. Decorative Lighting

The first two should always be highly regarded and the remaining two are simply extra add on features. Now that you have been acquainted with these four words, what do they mean? Don’t worry as I have briefly described each of them below:

1. Ambient lighting gives a sort of glow effect. One should identify what is the minimum comfort level they want to achieve in their space.

2. Task lighting can be specific to what activity will take place. What activity will take place in your design project? Will it be for computer use or detail work?

3. Accent lighting can be used when you want to highlight or focus on a particular feature in your space. Mood lighting creates drama. If you are going for a chic and modern look, this may be a very important feature to consider.

4. Decorative lighting is the twinkle and sparkle, that can be very exciting and pleasing to eye (if and only if 1 and 2 are used effectively).

FOR THOSE VISUAL LEARNERS, HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS THAT DEPICT EACH OF THE FOUR TYPES OF LIGHTING:
